An elegant style, evoking black currant, black cherry, violet and spice aromas and flavors. Silky and harmonious, its firm structure is well-integrated with the fruit detail and texture. Ends with flashes of earth, spice and mineral. Best from 2023 through 2043.

The 2016 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has a slightly muffled bouquet that requires more clarity. Dark berry fruit, hints of leather and undergrowth. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, and although it is missing a little depth, it is driven by the fine bead of acidity and feels pert and fresh on the finish – very “Charmes”. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting.

The 2016 Charmes Chambertin Vieilles Vignes has a generous bouquet with perfumed red cherries, crushed strawberry and cranberry scents laced with Chinese five spice and crushed flower petal aromas. I appreciate the focus and elegance here. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe red berry fruit, extremely well balanced and restrained (not unlike Denis Bachelet’s that I tasted in my prior visit). There is plenty of tension here, and there is a satisfying salinité on the finish that lingers long after the wine has been swallowed. This is a superb Charmes-Chambertin from Christophe Perrot-Minot.
