Description
By Tom Cannavan in 2019 (TC95)
When I tasted this wine early in 2018, I noted: “an austere reticence that is quite uncommon for a 2005”. One year on, the wine is beginning to build some fruit. Stylistic somewhere between 2004 and 2006. Medium weight, with a bouquet of crunchy red fruits, that picks up some tangerine zest on the back of the palate. This has good potential, although one to bury at the back of the cellar to allow the fruit to build. I wouldn’t broach the first one until 2022, should hold nicely for a decade beyond that.

Medium salmon pink with subtle pink reflections, fine, persistent mousse. Underpinned with hints of biscuit and dried fruit, wild red berry confit, a touch of nougat and candied orange zest, pleasant Pinot spice. Taut on the palate, a touch of sweet cherries, mineral texture, fine tannins, pleasant balance, dark minerality on the finish, nuances of orange on the aftertaste, a multi-faceted food wine.

This rosé Champagne is rich and vinous, offering smoky minerality up front, expanding to show dried raspberry, mandarin orange zest, brioche and espresso crème flavors that ride the fine, lacy mousse. Spice and mineral details persist on the racy finish. *Collectibles*

A mind-blowing wine. This is super subtle and intense with aromas of peaches, light strawberry and cream. Also shows rose petal and cooked peaches. Medium to full body, with ultra-fine tannins that feel like fine silk. The finish goes on for minutes. It floats across the palate. The winemaker says the closet vintage to this is the 1990, but I think this is better.

Offering up aromas of orange rind, dried white flowers and fresh pastry mingled with nuances of smoke and iodine, the 2005 Dom Pérignon Rosé is medium to full-bodied, vinous and fleshy, with a rich core of fruit complemented by sapid nuances that lend the wine interesting gastronomic potential. Broad, textural and delicately phenolic, it’s a successful effort in a challenging Champagne vintage.
