Description
By Wine Enthusiast in 2017 (WE94)
This is a big wine in its breadth of flavors and structure. Powerful tannins give hints of the wood aging. The ripe black fruit is given a crisp edge by the acidity that is typical of the vintage. The wine will certainly age well. Drink from 2023. *Cellar Selection*
By Vinous in 2017 (AG94)
The 2014 Certan de May offers terrific depth and intensity, although it is very much closed in on itself. Dark cherry, tobacco, cedar, mint, licorice and dried flowers gain volume over time. Deceptively medium in body, the 2014 has plenty of underlying tannin as well as enough acidity to drink well for a number of years.
By Wine Spectator in 2015 (WS91-94)
Shows a perfumy profile, with rooibos tea, blood orange and warm raspberry coulis notes leading the way. The structure marries a silky and fine-grained wood feel, letting the fruit smolder through the finish.
