Description
By Gilbert & Gaillard in 2012 (GG96)
Deeply-coloured garnet-red with crimson highlights. Nose of red fruits and vanilla oak. Harmonious, full and melted palate that is warm, closely-integrated and lively. Seamless with a taut finish framed by freshness. Good.

Gorgeous nose here, this is enticing and seductive and feels totally confident. Liquorice and chocolate is clear, it has generous, rich and well-textured black and brambly fruit but with beautiful balance that speaks to the appellation, and a mouthwatering sign-off. A great vintage, doing what great vintages do.

The 2009 Cantenac Brown repeats the solid showing six years ago. It has a clean and precise, very focused bouquet with intense blackberry and bilberry fruit, hints of sandalwood and mint emerging with time. This is very elegant. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine bead of acidity, taut and linear with real precision and grace towards the finish. Lovely touches of Asian spice linger on the aftertaste. What a superb Margaux.

Firmly structured, dark-fruited wine, very solid and dense. It has weight along with black currant fruits and acidity. It’s a wine that is rich but seriously structured for aging.
