Description
By James Suckling in 2015 (JS96)
A subtle, refined 2009 with complex aromas and flavors of currant, smoke, mineral and lead pencil. Full body with ultra-refined tannins and a long, long finish. An integrated, beautiful Beychevelle. Hard not to drink now but will be much better in 2017: a wine for long-term aging.
By Neal Martin of Vinous in 2018 (NM92)
The 2008 Beychevelle has a lifted, graphite and tertiary scented bouquet, gaining intensity with aeration, a subtle mulch-like aroma tucked beneath the black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, blackberry and bilberry fruit laced with cedar. It feels quite solid towards the back end with an insistent grip. As such, it is not a refined Beychevelle, but it is structured and a candidate for long-term ageing.
By Wine Enthusiast in 2011 (WE91)
A big, spicy wine, packed with new wood as well as ripe, soft fruit. It’s smooth, polished and balanced. Fine tannins add to the structure.
